Embedded VPN

In the age of networked and open systems, security is essential. Systems need protection in every way: when it comes to confidentiality, integrity, authentication, authorization, bindingness or availability.

The open technologies of virtual private networking (VPN) can be used to achieve this. Implementing them in embedded systems presents special challenges since these systems must be as cheap as possible, minimize power dissipation, and be future-proof.

stzedn has give itself the task of transferring the technologies used in classic VPNs to embedded systems, and so enable open, portable and consistent information exchange.

Crypto-Coprocessors

The true benefits of software solutions can always be seen where high levels of flexibility are required. In comparison hardware implementations provide powerful, low-cost computing power with relatively low power requirement. As external crypto processors are often difficult to integrate, and are usually only designed to connect to very powerful processors, stzedn has decided to pursue another direction with its crypto-coprocessors.

Nowadays there are various inexpensive modules on the market for monolithic system integration (System Level Integration - SLI), which can be used to create combined software/hardware systems. Programmable logic devices (PLDs) with integrated microcontrollers are particularly worth a mention here.

stzedn has implemented a DES/3DES coprocessor based on Atmel FPSLIC devices as its design example.

Services

Effective levels of security can only be achieved if technical constraints are met and the organizational integration of the system can be guaranteed. This is why stzedn provides a variety of consulting and training services to complement its product palette. These include security analyses and the development of bespoke security concepts.
